After getting mocked for his creepy, dead-eyed version of the metaverse avatar, Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new, boyish version.

It was only a matter of time until Mark Zuckerberg responded to the mockery he received for his creepy, dead-eyed version of his metaverse avatar. And respond he did, with a new, much more boyish version.

In an Instagram post published on Friday, Zuckerberg acknowledged that the avatar he shared on Monday was simple.

He added that it was rapidly created to mark the debut of France and Spain. In an apparent effort to reassure his supporters, he also released a screenshot of a more attractive version of Horizon Worlds.

He writes that he’s been working on the update for a while and he is happy with how it turned out.

The new avatar looks more like the young CEO—he’s still bald, but his face is less angular and grizzled.

According to Zuckerberg, Horizon’s graphics are capable of far more, even on headsets, and it is advancing swiftly.

Whether this will quiet the critics is yet to be seen, but Zuckerberg seems determined to show that he’s not afraid to poke fun at himself.

It is frequently questioned what the metaverse is capable of, especially as a substitute for in-person engagement. Mark Cuban, a billionaire businessman, recently criticized the issue of virtual real estate trading in the metaverse.

Earlier this year, Zuckerberg predicted that the firm’s metaverse project would lose considerable funds for the next five years.

This year, the value of the meta stock has decreased by 50% as Facebook’s user base declines and concerns about the company’s costly foray into the metaverse mount. As revenue growth halted in May, the company stopped employing.

The New Avatar Is a Big Departure From the Old One

So why did he overhaul his avatar? Well, it’s no secret that the old one wasn’t well-received.

This new avatar is a significant departure from the old one. It’s younger, more boyish—and frankly, a lot less creepy. Zuckerberg even joked that he was going for an “Annie Hall” vibe.

But make no mistake, this new avatar is still Zuckerberg. It’s just a more youthful version of himself. He wants to show the world that he’s still engaged and in touch with what’s happening.

Zuckerberg Says the New Avatar Is More Expressive

You’re probably wondering why Mark Zuckerberg decided to unveil a new avatar after getting mocked for his creepy, dead-eyed version.

Well, the Facebook CEO says that the new avatar is more expressive and will help people to communicate better on the platform. “I think it’s going to be great for people to be able to express themselves in more ways,” Zuckerberg said. “This is just the beginning.”

So apparently, Zuckerberg is planning on making more changes to his avatar soon. Let’s hope he gets it right this time!

The Bottom Line

Some say it’s a big improvement over the old, dead-eyed version. Others are saying that it still looks a bit creepy. What are your thoughts about Zuckerberg’s new avatar? Let us know in the comments below.
