HBO Releases First Trailer For The Last Of Us

HBO’s The Last Of Us” is the newest TV series adaptation of a video game that seeks to attract more gamers to the streaming service. On Monday, the first full trailer of “The Last Of Us” was revealed, giving fans of the popular video game franchise their first view of the show, which is set to debut on HBO and HBO Max in 2023.

The Last Of Us is based on the 2013 action-adventure game of the same name, which sold over 17 million copies across the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4 platforms.

Its story is set in a post-apocalyptic future in the year 2033, two decades after a fungus outbreak that crippled society. The series follows Joel portrayed by “The Mandalorian” and “Narcos” star Pedro Pascal, as he makes his way across an America ravaged by a contagious zombie-turning disease known as the cordyceps fungus.

Down his journey, he finds an “unlikely” companion with a character named Ellie, portrayed by “Game Of Thrones” actor Bella Ramsey, whose DNA plays a critical role in creating the antidote for the zombie plague that devastates what remains of civilization.

The trailer release came on Monday, the 26 of Sept, which has been dubbed “Outbreak Day” by The Last Of Us community. In the video game’s first installment, the fungus began spreading around America on Sept. 26.

From the trailer, fans of the franchise will recollect iconic scenes from “The Last Of Us” video game, like Ellie and Joe trying to escape the quarantine zone and the two crumbling buildings they must traverse. There’s also the moment where Ellie rides a merry-go-round with her childhood friend, and Joel has fun with his little daughter at the beginning of the fungus pandemic.

People who become infected with the cordyceps fungus change into monstrous creatures called “clickers”. These “clicker” creatures have mushroom-resembling spores bursting through their faces and an unquenchable desire for human flesh.

Incapable of sight, clickers use an eerie manifestation of echolocation to track their prey.

The complete cast of “The Last Of Us” includes Bella Ramsey playing Ellie, Pedro Pascal playing Joel, Gabriel Luna playing Tommy Miller, Anna Torv playing Tess, Nico Parker playing Sarah Miller, Con O’Neill playing Bill, Merle Dandridge playing Marlene, Murray Bartlett playing Frank, Jeffrey Pierce playing Perry, Lamar Johnson playing Henry, Elaine Miles playing Florence, and Graham Greene playing Marlon.

Co-president of video game studio, Naughty Dog – Neil Druckmann serves as the show co-creator and executive producer, in union with Craig Mazin, the award-winning creator of HBO miniseries Chernobyl. Evan Wells, Carolyn Strauss, Asad Qizilbash, Rose Lam, and Carter Swan are executive producers. Ali Abbas, Kantemir Balagov, Peter Hoar, Jamila Žbanić, Liza Johnson, and Jeremy Webb are directors.
