At the WWDC presentation, Apple revealed information about the M2 chip. The M2 is designed for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13.
The M2 chip was introduced by Apple, kicking off the next generation of Apple silicon made particularly for the Apple laptop.
The M2 chip is an upgraded version of the M1, with an 18% faster Processor, a 35% more powerful GPU, and a 40% better Neural Engine. It also has 50% greater memory connectivity than the M1, with 24GB of rapid unified storage.
M2 adds all of this to the fully designed MacBook Air and updated 13-inch MacBook Pro, as well as new unique features and improved productivity.
Transistors and Memory Updates
The M2 system-on-chip design is built using the second-generation 5nm technology. This system upgrade is about 25% better than the old M1 chip. Also, the additional transistors improve the performance of the entire chip, including the memory controller.
The M1 chip which is the predecessor can also perform complex functions, such as working in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe Premiere Pro, but with the new device on the M2 chip, you will feel the difference in performance.
Faster Power-Efficient Performance
The M2 processor is equipped with more productive cores. Together they provide 18% faster multi-threaded performance than the M1, so the M2 can perform resource-intensive tasks with minimal power consumption. You can apply complex effects and filters in photo or video editing. After running some benchmarks against the latest 10-core laptop, the M2 processor leaves no chance, delivering nearly double the performance for the same power level.
You can do many complex tasks and enjoy the power of your battery. With this new and one-of-a-kind technology, your computer can last up to 20 hours on a single charge.
Compared to other systems with the latest 12-core laptop chip, The Apple laptop is thin and handy, while its counterparts are bigger because of their core components which is less to the Apple system.
Price
At the time of writing this review, the only two devices available with the M2 chip are the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro 13. On the Apple official website, the system costs $1199 for the MacBook Air and $1299 for the MacBook Pro 13.
For this price, the system features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a Three-mic array, a Four-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio, and the ability to unlock it with Touch ID.
Conclusion
Apple’s presentation comprehensively shows what the M2 chip is capable of. Several Apple users are already singing praises of this new technology. However, some users believe it is too expensive for the price. Nevertheless, with its features, performance, and most especially the 20hours battery lifespan, I think the new Apple Laptop technology is more than enough for any creative or corporate worker.
