Apple has pulled through again this year with the incredible new iOS 16, scheduled for release on Monday (12th of September 2022)

iOS 16 Release Date and Everything You Need to Know About Apple Operating System Update

Shortly after announcing the iPhone 14 at its ‘Far Out’ September event, Apple released details stating the iOS 16 will be ready next week – on Monday.

The new iPhone operating system comes with some amazing innovations, such as the redesigned lock screen, a shared photo library for groups and families, and core improvements to its full messaging capability.

From September 12, customers will be able to install iOS 16: However, the update will hold back on some of the announced features that are planned to be released in the coming months.

Which iPhones Will Run iOS 16

Apple says that compatibility with the iOS 16 will extend to all phones released in the last five years. iPhones released before the iPhone 8 will not make it to the list of iOS 16 supported devices.

iOS 16 New Features

Apple went hard on iOS 16. Among the new feature set, improvements were made to nearly every aspect of their already-amazing software.

Here’s a quick rundown of the most significant changes impacted by Apple on iOS 16:

Lock Screen

Instead of the traditional lock screen, Users can customize the lock screen to their preference.

You can now adjust widgets to style, rearrange picture placement, experiment with filters, and redecorate multiple elements to create a lock screen that resonates with you.

Maps

This year Apple Maps comes with a whole lot of exciting improvements:

The multi-stop feature allows you to add up to fifteen new locations.

This can either be done on the go with Siri or set beforehand on your Mac and then sent to your iPhone.

In addition, public transit users can check the fares for each journey, while also being able to add a transit card to the Apple Wallet all without leaving the Maps app.

Focus

Focus, which was first added to iOS 15, blocks out what you deem as unnecessary distractions, allowing users to focus more on the task at hand – be it work or play.

The Focus feature on iOS 16 now allows you to extend the feature to your lock screen. For example, you’re able to create custom lock screens with a specific focus mode. You can create one for work, with work-related customizations and widgets, and another for family or fun.

Wallet

With Apple Pay Later, users can make a series of four payments over six weeks. Each payment is zero-interest provided all payments are made on time through the Apple Wallet.

It also comes with a new Order Tracking Feature, which provides receipts and transaction details for all payments made with the Apple Wallet.

Finally, you can now use your Wallet IDs to confirm your age and identity for other apps. You can also share a home, office, hotel, and car keys in Wallet through Apple’s messaging platforms.

Messages

Apple messages are seeing three major improvements:

Firstly, you can edit already sent messages: However, there’s a five-edit limit on every message and a fifteen-minute window for editing a message.

Secondly, you can retract a message but only for two minutes. The other caveat is that the un-send feature is only compatible with iOS 16-supported devices.

Lastly, you can mark a thread as unread reminding you to attend to an important message later.

Live text and Virtual Lookup

Live text and Virtual Lookup will meet major upgrades with the release of iOS 16. Now, users can highlight and copy text from videos. The live text also functions in Translate, so users can copy large amount of foreign words.

Visual Lookup can tell objects apart in your images and allows you to remove the subject from its image, making it easy to quickly paste it into another app.

iCloud Shared Library

Using the iCloud Shared Library, the whole family can share a separate library for all photos alongside edits, videos, and captions.

The problem, however, is that you’ll have to wait till the release of this feature. Apple said it would be delaying the feature until further notice.

A Final Word

Apple has reaffirmed its status as a tech giant with the features following the premiere of iOS 16. And to fully enjoy these features, we’ll have to wait until the official release, which is just a few days ahead of us. But if you can’t wait till then, you can enjoy the iOS 16 in its beta mode.
