Martin Schwenk, the new President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz (Thailand) Limited, posted on Instagram on Thursday with the username “Martins Masala.” The post was a picture of him after he left the Mercedes S-Series to board a tricycle.

About the post

After being caught in traffic in Pune, the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) abandoned a high-end model of his company’s vehicle and boarded an auto rickshaw. On Thursday, Schwenk shared a picture of himself inside the rickshaw after getting out of his Mercedes S-Class on his Instagram account “Martins Masala” to share his experience.

How did Instagram users react?

“If your S-class is stuck in traffic on the wonderful Pune roads – what do you do? Maybe getting off the car, start walking for a few KM’s, and then grabbing a rickshaw?” was written in the photo caption. More than 8,000 people liked and commented on Schwenk’s post on the internet.

While some liked the CEO for his gesture of taking an automobile, others found his posting funny. “Take it easy, man… it is our daily routine,” an Instagram user commented. “Auto rickshaw is a mini-Mercedes Benz. Any time. Anywhere,” said another user.

What changes are going to happen at Mercedes?

In January of next year, Schwenk would leave his position as executive director and chairman of Mercedes India. Mercedes elected Santosh Iyer, on January 1, 2023, as the CEO and Managing Director of the Indian business on August 29. Schwenk will lead Mercedes-Benz Thailand as president and CEO.

Schwenk made a statement several weeks ago on the problem of traffic accidents in India. To reduce the number of fatalities from accidents, he said it is important to adhere to the regulations of the road and strictly enforce them.

On September 15, the CEO of Mercedes India told the news agency, PTI saying: “If everyone followed the rules, we would already have a huge decrease in road deaths, and that’s for a two-wheeler, three-wheeler, and four-wheeler.”

His comments appeared after Cyrus Mistry, a former chairman of Tata Sons, died on September 4 in an accident in the Palghar area of Maharashtra. Mistry was not using a seat belt while riding in the backseat of a Mercedes. According to Schwenk, Mistry’s death put “road safety back onto the agenda in a specific way.”
