SNAP (Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program helps people to buy food. The money for the program is provided by the federal government but is administered by Illinois Department of Human Services in Illinois. There are certain eligibility criteria that you must meet to be eligible for the SNAP benefits.

- Size of your family
- If there is any elder or disabled person in the family.

Asset limits for SNAP
In some situations, there are assets limits on SNAP. Assets are the stuff in your house that you own and are expensive. If any of the following condition applies to you, you have to follow the asset limits
- If anyone in your family is disqualified under IPV (International Program Violation) or has a work disposition penalty, the asset limit, in this case, is $2,250.
- If your family contains a “qualifying member”, the asset limit will be $3,250. The qualifying members are –
- The family member is 60 years or older.
- If anyone receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
- If anyone receives social security disability or blindness benefits.
- Anyone Receiving Assistance for the Aged, Blind, and Disabled or Medicaid.
- If you are any type of veteran or their surviving family members.
- Receiving a federal, state, or local government disability pension.
- You receive an annual railroad retirement payment and are eligible for Medicare.
